27,000 New Jobs By 2021 Due To Solar & Energy Storage (Paper)

energy storage cleantechnicaThe Solar Foundation recently released a paper at Intersolar North America about how the growth of energy storage could impact solar jobs in the United States. One figure within the paper which particularly jumps out is the estimate that by 2021, there could be 27,000 jobs related to solar and energy storage. This number includes 9,000 energy storage jobs linked with solar, and about 18,000 solar jobs which would not be available without the presence of energy storage.

US backs wider energy storage incentives

Mining JournalCo-sponsor of a US senate bill to establish investment tax credits for business and home energy storage use, US senator Martin Heinrich says the proposed Energy Storage Tax Incentive and Deployment Act will ensure federal government policy supports integration of emerging storage technologies into the country’s energy grid.

The US Energy Storage Association proclaimed this week that extending the investment tax credits (ITC) to energy storage was critical to acceleration of the country’s transition to a “flexible, efficient and resilient US electric grid”.

Batteries like the lithium-ion ones in phones and electric vehicles would be eligible for the tax incentives when connected to the utility grid at homes and businesses under a bill introduced Tuesday by Democratic Senator Martin Heinrich from New Mexico. The bill has eight co-sponsors including Dean Heller, a Nevada Republican, according to a statement.
